Desi Smith/Gloucester Daily Times photos The 76 Eastern Ave. home of Gloucester police officer Wayne Sargent, 57, exploded yesterday, completely leveling the house and severely damaging surrounding buildings. Gloucester Fire Chief Barry McKay and other firefighters survey the damage as they extinguish the flames caused by the explosion. Sargent was medflighted to Mass. General and was in critical condition but is expected to recover.
