On Tuesday, Manchester Memorial Elementary School kicked off its first "ONE SCHOOL, ONE BOOK School-Wide Read." Through the generosity of the Spaulding Education Fund, each Memorial School family and staff member will receive a copy of Barbara Cooney's award-winning book "MISS RUMPHIUS." Together, the community will read, discuss and participate in activities based on this beautiful inspirational story for children of all ages. On Thursday, the fifth-graders and their kindergarten buddies read the book together. Other grades are doing other activities related to the book such as writing to the author's son, planting and germinating lupine seeds and learning about the science of soil and painting still lifes. From left, reading together on Thursday are fifth-grader Anton Kozyrev, kindergartener Cole Cote and fifth-grader Thymen De Widt. Related story and more photos on page 4.
