MIKE SPRINGER/Gloucester Daily Times Second grader Alex Fraser enjoys music performed by folk singer Daisy Nell at Essex Elementary School. Nell, an Essex native who plays with her husband Stan Collinson in the group Crabgrass, has been working this fall with the Essex Elementary School music teacher, Rich Carpenter, as an artist in residence, playing folk music with various guest artists and teaching the students about the music's importance to cultures around the world. Students from each of the three second grade classes helped Nell write original lyrics, and the resulting songs will be performed at the school's holiday concert on December 19.
