The person struck and killed by an MBTA commuter train last night was a 13-year-old student at O'Maley Middle School.
While authorities have still not officially released the victim's identification, sources have indicated the boy was Michael Grzybinski. Michael was an eighth-grader at O'Maley, and was named to the honor roll for the first quarter of the current school year. He would have celebrated his 14th birthday in the coming weeks. Earlier reports had incorrectly indicated that the boy had already turned 14.
A spokesman for Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett said the death was still under investigation, but Gloucester Police Chief Michael Lane said that foul play is not suspected in the incident.
The boy was struck by a northbound MBTA train headed for Rockport around 6:30 p.m. Monday in the area of Babson Reservoir above Cleveland Street and Dory Road.
Gloucester school officials said O'Maley will be open from 5 to 7 p.m. today, and from 10 a.m. to noon tomorrow to offer grief counseling and support to students if they seek it.
