Body found found off coast

MARBLEHEAD — Authorities are investigating whether a body found east of Marblehead Harbor on Monday afternoon is that of Maryan Lisovich, the 23-year-old kayaker who went missing off Swampscott on Sept. 8.

The body was to be examined by the chief medical examiner in Boston today and has not yet been identified.

The U.S. Coast Guard and the State Police Marine Unit received a report of a body found between four and five miles off the Marblehead coast at 4:27 p.m., according to a state police press release. A Coast Guard crew retrieved the body and brought it to Station Gloucester where it was picked up by state police and brought to the medical examiner's office in Boston.

Lisovich disappeared after he went kayaking off of Fisherman's Beach on Sept. 8. He was apparently not wearing a life jacket. A friend reported him missing to police at 5:53 p.m. Lisovich's blue kayak washed up on nearby Eisman Beach later that night.

Multiple agencies were involved in the search that ensued, including local police, state police, Environmental Police and the Coast Guard, which sent several vessels to the area, including a cutter from Woods Hole, according to previous Salem News reports. The Coast Guard also searched the area from the air with a helicopter and a jet sent from Air Station Cape Cod.

An investigation is being conducted by state police detectives from the Essex County District Attorney's Office, with assistance from the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, the Coast Guard and local police in Swampscott.
