My 2008 Infiniti G35's windshield has been making noises off and on since it was purchased new. It sounds like something is rattling in the dashboard. I have brought it to the dealer several times to have them fix it, and it stops until the temperature changes. They said that it is the cushion that the windshield sits on and have taken the windshield out and replaced the cushion, but it keeps coming back. They also said that it is not a safety issue. Any ideas how to stop this besides just turning the radio up so I can't hear it?!

If it is the dashboard weather stripping, then changing it may be the only answer. However, after looking through the All Data Information system, I have found there is a Tech Service Bulletin for a similar problem that may be exactly what you are talking about. The heater core tends to make noise in these cars and a TSB# G35/G37/EX35, explains exactly how to back flush the heater core to eradicate the noise. In the TSB they say the noise frequency increases with the engine RPM. Let me know how your progress goes on this problem.

A while back you wrote about a problem Nissan Pathfinders have with belt squeaking. I don't recall if Infinites were included, but since this piece I have bought a 2002 Infinity QX4 with 72,000 miles. I recently have been having the problem you described, especially when I first start the vehicle. It lasts a few seconds then goes away. I had the belts replaced but the same problem still exists and sometimes it will start and stop while driving If I remember correctly, I think you mentioned something about the pulleys. Any help would be appreciated.

The three most common reasons for belt squeal are a weak belt tensioner, pulleys not in alignment, or one of the devices the belt is trying to turn is locking up. If you did not have any of the belt-driven appliances replaced recently, than pulley alignment is most likely not the problem. A wrench on the belt tensioner will show if the tensioner is weak. Next step will be to remove the belt, and turn each belt driven device by hand. If there is a bad bearing, it will be very evident. At any rate, to diagnose this problem shouldn't take you more than an hour.

When I come to a stop light I put my car in neutral — I was told that this would reduce the RPM's, thus would be easier on the engine. I have a 2011 Odyssey, when I do this, my RPMs go down by approximately 200.

It's more of a strain on the engine and transmission when you keep shifting back and forth. This kind of action is considered penny-wise and dollar-foolish. Enjoy your new Honda, it's a great car.

Car Care Tip: Winter weather is starting to arrive. Be very careful of black ice.
