Forbes Digital promotes city native

Forbes Digital in New York City has promoted Gloucester native Michael Dugan to vice president of information technology. In this position, Dugan will oversee all software development initiatives and content management system operations.

"Our editorial, sales, marketing, and operating divisions are all working together to help Forbes Digital best serve our readers and advertisers," said Michael Smith, president of Forbes.com, in a statement. "This well-deserved promotion reflects creative, strategic thinking in an important transitional time for our business, while the structural changes have positioned us for continued success in the coming years."

A graduate of St. John's Preparatory School in Danvers and Fordham University, Dugan lives in Brooklyn, N.Y., with his wife, Welly Lai, an interior designer. He is the son of Jean and William Dugan.

Schooner Adventure leader honored

Martin Krugman, president of Gloucester Adventure Inc. has been honored as one of the inaugural Paul E. Tsongas Profiles in Preservation. Awarded by Preservation Massachusetts, Profiles in Preservation acknowledges the individuals who have made a difference in the landscape of historic preservation in Massachusetts since the mid-twentieth century.

For almost 20 years, Krugman has been the driving force behind the restoration of the National Historic Landmark dory-fishing schooner Adventure. The primary objective has been to properly restore the hull to make the schooner seaworthy, and fit the vessel out in its original configuration as 1926 Gloucester fishing schooner. The hull completed, work is now being done to fit out the vessel to enable her to sail.

Once fully restored, the schooner Adventure will return to active sailing as a platform for educational programming focusing on maritime, cultural, and environmental issues within the authentic setting of a real fishing vessel while utilizing learning stations with up to date digital equipment.

The Profiles in Preservation nominees will be honored at Preservation Massachusetts' 25th Anniversary dinner on May 5 at the Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston

New Web site offers real estate news

J. Barrett & Company has unveiled its newly-enhanced Web site, www.jbarrettrealty.com, with access to real estate news and information. It is continually updated from leading real estate publications, newswires and industry authority blogs, such as Banker and Tradesman, RISMedia, Inman News, Realtor, Boston Business Journal, the Real Estate Marketing Blog, Boston.com, the Boston Globe, DSNews.com, CNBC, MarketWatch, Barron's, and the Wall Street Journal.

"We are very excited about offering this unique capability," said Jon Gray, president, in a statement. "No other real estate firm on the North Shore, in the state or in the country can provide the most up-to-date information clients need as fast as we can. In fact, we have that information as soon as the news sources create it. We worked closely with Northern Light, a provider of business news solutions for major corporations, creating the perfect subset of relevant real estate news."

"But it's not just about speed," said Gray. "Today, information drives every industry and real estate is no exception. ... The ability to share access to that information with our clients is a bonus and we're delighted to do that."

Featuring a fresh new user-friendly design, the Web site allows for faster and easier home searches including information on newly listed properties, listings, upcoming open houses and rentals. Most searches involve a single click.

"We worked diligently to make certain our Web site produces results quickly, is easy to understand and, most of all, is easy to use," said Gray. "Research proves that 87 percent of buyers are currently searching the internet to shop for a new home or to research a community. Sellers, on the other hand, are using the Web to find information about listing their homes including which company to use. Internet use continues, but not all Web sites are easily accessible. This one is."
