Gloucester woman is Red Cross Volunteer of the Year

Gloucester’s June Beckley has earned the 2013 CEO Award, given by the American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts.

Beckley is a volunteer who does her own work well and then offers to help someone else, the Red Cross said. She has demonstrated an amazing resolve to conquer any task, big or small, and has volunteered many hours during disaster responses.

“Our volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization,” said Jarrett Barrios, chief executive officer of the American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts. “Ninety-five percent of our work hours providing disaster relief, emergency food and lifesaving skills are performed by volunteers. These awardees represent the best of those who carry out our mission to alleviate suffering.”

Beckley is one of 15 volunteers and partners to receive accolades this year. Individuals from the Red Cross’ various programs and services were recognized for their effort and dedication.

The Red Cross recognized its volunteers and partners from across the region at its annual Volunteer Appreciation Ceremony, held June 18 at Lombardo’s in Randolph.
