J.M. Walsh celebrates with giving campaign

Rockport's J.M. Walsh Oil Company is celebrating 30 years in business, and co-owners Janelle and Frank Favaloro are thanking the communities it serves by living up to their company's slogan: "Caring for the Community is Our Business."

The couple's Community Choice Campaign is donating $100 a month to charities to be voted on by their customers and anyone in the community who wishes to cast a ballot.

Ballots are being mailed to all customers, and votes can be cast online at www.jmwalshoil.com, and are available by calling 978-283-4815, or emailing info@jmwalshoil.com. Favorite charities are listed on the ballot and website, but voters can enter nominate their own, as long as it's a legitimate public charity or community cause.

Each month, an employee random-draws an entry, and a gift of $100 goes to the charity named on the ballot.

"We've always had a strong commitment to the community and ... have contributed a portion of our profits to dozens of charitable causes," said company president Janelle Favaloro,

The company's website lists many of those causes — including The Open Door, American Red Cross, local PTOs, Rockport Garden Club, Cape Ann Symphony, American Legion Post 3, the Rotary, and the American Cancer Society — that have benefited from its support over the years.

The Community Choice Campaign's initial pledge supports the Grace Center, working to give the homeless of the Cape Ann safe, secure day time havens, and empower them out of poverty and homelessness. A major gift also goes to the John E. Lane Auditorium at Rockport High School for a new sound system.
