BankGloucester marks 125th anniversary

BankGloucester has begun celebrating its 125th anniversary.

BankGloucester is planning several special events throughout this year, beginning with a Customer Appreciation Day this Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., with refreshments and a chance to enter a free raffle to win an iPad2.

In April 1887, Gloucester Cooperative Bank officially opened its doors in the back room of Everett Lane's Jewelry Store, at 130 Main St. Now BankGloucester, a $190 million state-chartered cooperative bank, continues to thrive in a new location at 160 Main St.

"The bank has come a long way in 125 years but has never swayed from its unwavering commitment to the community and to providing exceptional customer service," said President and Chief Executive Officer Patrick Thorpe.

"In commemoration of this significant milestone, we recently donated $50,000 to the Newell Stadium Renewal Project," he noted. "This donation is one way the bank plans to show its appreciation to a community that has supported and contributed so much to its growth and success over the years."
