---- — Bank accepting donations for Sandy
Patrick Thorpe, president and chief executive officer of BankGloucester, has announced that the bank will be accepting donations to help people affected by Hurricane Sandy.
All donations will be forwarded to the American Red Cross to be used in its disaster relief efforts — earmarked for Hurricane Sandy.
“I am very proud of the employees at BankGloucester who joined together and organized this fundraising effort,” Thorpe said in a statement.
Ways to contribute:
In person — Drop off a check or cash at BankGloucester, 160 Main St., Gloucester. Hours are Monday to Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
By mail — Mail a check to BankGloucester, 160 Main St., Gloucester, MA 01930. Make checks payable to: BankGloucester, and write “American Red Cross” on the memo line.
Online — Donations are accepted at www.redcross.org/charitable-donations.
Energy efficiency council seeks rep
BOSTON — Massachusetts Nonprofit Network (MNN), a state organization representing the nonprofit sector, is seeking nominations for a representative to the state’s Energy Efficiency Advisory Council. The council, established as part of the Green Communities Act in 2008, reviews and approves the three-year energy efficiency plans prepared by the commonwealth’s gas and electric distribution companies and approved municipal aggregators. The council was expanded, in this year’s electricity bill, to include a representative from MNN’s network of nonprofit organizations.
The role of the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network representative to the council is to review, approve, and monitor energy efficiency plans and programs required of the state’s investor-owned gas and electric utilities and energy providers and to help the nonprofit sector save energy and lower operating costs by advocating for nonprofit targeted efficiency programs.
MNN is seeking interested candidates who are dedicated to improving efficiency opportunities available to nonprofits, with a background in energy, sustainability or a related field. Interested applicants should visit MNN’s website at www.massnonprofitnet.org.
Gas prices drop another 2 cents
BOSTON (AP) — Gas prices in Massachusetts have eased down another two cents in the past week.
AAA Southern New England reports Monday that the average price of a gallon of self-serve, regular has dropped to $3.54. On Cape Ann, gas prices varied by a dime, from a high of $3.69 in Manchester to a low of $3.59 in Gloucester.
Even though prices in Massachusetts are 11 cents lower per gallon than a month ago, they remain 16 cents above the national average and 26 higher than at the same time last year.
AAA found self-serve, regular selling as low as $3.42 per gallon and as high as $3.79 per gallon.
