Magnolia's Sheriff among top real estate agents

J. Barrett & Company, an independent real estate company with 41 brokers, has named real estate broker Mandy Sheriff of Magnolia among the Top 10 real estate agents for 2009 on the North Shore (according to MLS). The list encompasses seven of the North Shore's most desired communities: Beverly, Essex, Gloucester, Hamilton, Manchester, and Rockport.

"I am thrilled to be in this position," says Sheriff. "I have worked very hard for my clients and it is exciting and gratifying to be recognized as a top producer in the area." A native of the North Shore, Sheriff has more than seven years experience in the real estate industry. She is also an historic homes specialist.

"We are very proud of Mandy's accomplishments but not at all surprised," says Jon Gray, president, J Barrett & Company. "Mandy is extremely responsive to her clients and she does her homework on each and every transaction and that shows." Being successful in any real estate market is more than possible, adds Gray, regardless of the state of the economy. "The key to success is to develop an appropriate marketing plan and then follow through."

Established in 2007, J. Barrett, is a small service-oriented company. "Our success is due to our incredible brokers," says Gray. "They are well respected real estate experts who understand market conditions. They are also extremely knowledgeable about this area and do their jobs exceptionally well."

J. Barrett & Co. serves the North Shore and Cape Ann areas from 3 Oak St. in Beverly, 67 Main St. in Gloucester, and 38 Union St. in Manchester.

Breakfast brakes on economic optimism

Dr. Robert Gough, president and CEO of G-enovation Inc. of Lexington, will be the featured speaker at the monthly meeting of the North Shore Technology Council on Wednesday, Feb. 24, from 7 to 9 a.m., at the Peabody Marriott, 8 A Centennial Drive, Peabody.

As the head of a global growth strategies firm, Dr. Gough is an economist who focuses on macroeconomic forces world-wide, as well as growth strategies for charting and negotiating various economic environments. The topic of his speech, "The Eye of the Storm? Why 2010 could bring additional economic turbulence," draws on his extensive expertise to address fundamental factors in the economic landscape that have changed for the better, as well as clear signals that we are not out of the woods with regard to the problems that led to the economic crisis in the first place.

Although Dr. Gough believes the economy will likely do better in 2010, if products like credit default swaps are not seriously regulated or eliminated, and other reforms enacted on Wall Street, current economic optimism will be short lived.

Sponsored by Good Leads, this presentation begins at 7:45 a.m., following a 9 a.m. continental breakfast and 45 minutes of networking. Registration fee is $25 for NSTC members and $45 for nonmembers, at www.nstc.org, or by e-mail, at: events@nstc.org.
