Mike Marker 1 hosts Pan-Mass. Challenge benefit
Tobin Dominick, Vice President of Cape Ann Marina Resort, will host a second annual fundraiser for the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge Thursday from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Mile Marker 1 Waterfront Café© & Bar at Cape Ann Marina.
The newly opened Mile Marker One, so named for its location at the first mile of the Intracoastal Waterway, will present one of Boston's leading comics, Paul D'Angelo, with music by DJ Scottie Mac, and a silent auction.
On Aug. 4 and 5, Dominick will also join some 23 residents of Gloucester, Essex, Rockport and Manchester residents riding in the 33rd annual Pan-Massachusetts Challenge (PMC), the pioneer charity bike-a-thon that raises more money than any other athletic fund-raising event in the nation.
They will be among 5,500 cyclists riding the two-day 192-mile PMC route from Sturbridge to Provincetown with the collective goal of raising $36 million to support adult and pediatric cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund.
Like most PMC participants, Dominick was inspired to play an active role in the massive cancer fundraising movement to honor a loved on: in this case, her late father, Andrew "Andy" Dominick Jr., who succumbed to cancer in December 2010.
A former president of the Chamber of Commerce and Small Businessman of the year, Andy Dominick was operator of Cape Ann Marina Resort, donated his time, resources and support to many local community causes and foundations, and was instrumental in making Gloucester's World War II Memorial to the veterans a reality.
After seeing the exceptional care her father received at the Dana-Farber Institute, Dominick signed up for the PMC bike-a-thon, and this year, hopes to raise $4,000 through the event. Tickets for the July 12 fundraiser at Mile Marker One are $10, available at Cape Ann Marina Resort Office, or at the door.
All proceeds will benefit Tobin Dominick's PMC ride. For more information, visit, www.MMArker1.com. To donate directly to Dominick's ride, visit: http://www.pmc.org/profile/TD0127. Mile Marker 1 is located at the Cape Ann Marina, 75 Essex Ave. Rt. 133, Gloucester, MA 01930.
