Chamber networker at Second Glance
In keeping with a new emphasis on building closer relationships between local business and nonprofit agencies, Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly after-hours social networker at a nonprofit venue; this time, tomorrow night from 5 to 7, at The Open Door's The Second Glance resale shop at 2 Pond Road in Gloucester.
Last month's venue — Elder Service Plan of the North Shore's PACE facility on Emerson Avenue — proved such a success, says chamber project and events director Tim Burton, that "we decided to keep the nonprofit connection running for a second month at The Open Door's Second Glance site."
The brainchild of Open Door Executive Director Julie LaFontaine, The Second Glance provides 27 percent of nonprofit's annual operating budget. Conceived to serve those in need of affordable clothing and household goods, word of mouth on the shop as a bargain hunter's bonanza spilled over socio-economic boundaries.
Cost for Wednesday night's event is $10 for members, $20 for nonmembers. For reservations, contact Burton at tim@capeannchamber.com.
On May 15, the chamber's after-hours networker moves to Rockport's Heath Tea Room, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Pino, Geary named Paul Harris Fellows
The Gloucester Rotary Club has named Ruth Pino and Julie Geary as Paul Harris Fellows, the award named after the Chicago lawyer who founded Rotary in 1905.
Pino was selected by a club committee of previous award recipients, while Geary was chosen by members of the Interact Club, an active group of Gloucester High School Junior Rotarians.
Pino and Geary will be honored at a special dinner on Wednesday, May 16, at Cruiseport Gloucester. The social hour begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $45 per person and may be reserved by contacting event Chairman Steve Kaity at 978-879-1051.
The dinner is open to the general public, and friends and colleagues of Pino and Geary are encouraged to attend.
