Davis-Standard opens Gloucester office
Davis-Standard LLC of Pawcatuck, Conn., has announced the opening of a new office in Gloucester. The Northeast office will feature personnel representing both the extrusion and converting businesses of Davis-Standard.
The new office allows the company to increase its presence throughout the Northeast and tap into the engineering and sales talents of the area.
"Opening an office in Gloucester for experienced engineers and sales professionals is one more example of our ability to invest in future growth," said Charles Buckley, president and CEO of Davis-Standard, in a statement. "In spite of the turmoil in the financial markets, we continue to grow through market share gains and continuous global expansion."
Buckley also said that employment has grown by 91 people, or 27 percent, since 2005, and that the company has seen a 40 percent increase in market share in single-crew extruders over the last three years. Buckley also said that company profits are up 130 percent.

Foster's teams with Irving Oil
Foster's gas station, at 107 Eastern Ave. in Gloucester, will introduce Irving fuel products to its customers in the Cape Ann area.
The location, now operated by Susan Foster, a third-generation member of the Foster family, has been updated with a new look and a new fuel brand. Beginning Nov. 13, the Foster's station will be offering Irving fuel products. Irving Oil is a leading energy and refiner and supplier founded in 1924 in Saint John, New Brunswick, with U.S. headquarters in Portsmouth, N.H.
Foster's will also offer Override, a gas savings program that gives customers the opportunity to lower their price of Irving gas by purchasing groceries at participating Shaw's Supermarkets locations. The Shaw'sat 127 Eastern Ave. and 7 Railroad Ave. in Gloucester are both participating in the program.
"We're incredibly excited to be associated with Irving," Foster said in a statement. "It was an easy partnership to form because they are similar to us in so many ways. They are family owned, they have the highest commitment to customer service and quality products. This is a new chapter in our long history of doing business here in Gloucester."
The Foster family started business in 1949 when Clinton Foster purchased the Eastern Avenue site from Cape Pond Ice. Charlie Foster took over the business in 1953, and incorporated the "Foster From Gloucester Inc." name in 1957. Susan Foster entered the family business in 2003.
"When a business is new to an area, it's incredibly important to partner with the right people, and the Fosters are the right people," said Harry Hadiaris, director of operations for Irving, in a statement. "They've run a trusted local business in the same location for 60 years. They know their customers, they know the area. I know they are also excited about offering Irving fuel products and Override."
Override was created in July 2007 as a way to offer customers the opportunity to lower their price of gas. A minimum purchase of $50 at participating Shaw's locations earns 10 cents off a gallon, up to 20 gallons, on the customer's next fillup at a participating Irving location, which now includes Foster's. The Override program includes more than 70 participating Shaw's locations and 200 participating Irving locations throughout New England.
