Seppala elected chairman of DIF

Norman Seppala, president and chief executive officer of Granite Savings Bank in Rockport has been elected chairman of the board of directors of the Depositors Insurance Fund.

The DIF provides excess deposit insurance to 62 Massachusetts-chartered savings banks. At DIF member banks, all deposit amounts above FDIC insurance limits are insured in full by the Depositors Insurance Fund.

Seppala has been president and chief executive officer of Granite Savings Bank since 1990. He has served on the DIF board of directors since 2008.

A graduate of Bentley University, Seppala is a former director and chairman of the Massachusetts Bankers Association and past chairman of the Savings Bank Employees Retirement Association. He is a member of the Rockport Rotary Club.

Bernier receives President’s Circle award

Karen Bernier of Essex, a sales associate in the Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage office in Manchester, has been recognized with the Coldwell Banker International President’s Circle award. This distinguished honor is awarded to the top five percent of approximately 82,200 sales associates worldwide in the Coldwell Banker system.

Bernier, who has 27 years of experience, was honored during a special celebration and reception April 30 at the State Room in Boston.

Bernier was ranked as the No. 1 real estate agent for dollar volume and transaction sides sold in Essex in 2012, according to the Multiple Listing Service Property Information Network.

Bernier has earned the Historic Homes Specialist certification from the Peabody Essex Museum, the Certified Residential Specialist (CRS), Accredited Buyers Representative (ABR), the Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES), Certified Corporate Transfer Specialist, and the National Association of Realtor’s GREEN designations.

“Through hard work and an intimate understanding of the local real estate market, Karen has achieved great success in 2012,” said Pat Villani, president of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage New England, in a statement. “The Coldwell Banker International President’s Circle award is recognition of these achievements.”
