Kathy Wonson and Karl Bernard Sr. of Gloucester, are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Kaitlin Bernard, to Alex Stachowiak, son of Daniel and Karoli Stachowiak of Coventry, Conn.
Kaitlin is a graduate of Gloucester High School and earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut. She is a Laboratory Technician II at Charles River Laboratories in Storrs, Conn.
Alex is a graduate of Coventry High School and earned a Bachelor's degree from Massachusetts Maritime Academy. He is a Marine Engineer at McDermott International, Inc.
Alex and Kaitlin met in 2003 working on a horse farm in Tolland, Conn.
Kaitlin worked afternoons and during the summer taking care of the horses while attending the University of Connecticut. Alex worked on the weekends and during the summer, cutting hay and maintaining the machinery at the farm while attending Massachusetts Maritime Academy. It was over two years before they finally went on their first date. Ever since then, they have been inseparable!
After they both graduated from college in 2006, they moved into a house on the horse farm and they both worked there full time for a couple years. Eventually they moved on to other jobs, where Kaitlin works at a laboratory and Alex works on a ship in the Gulf of Mexico that builds oil rigs.
On Nov. 27, 2010, they were engaged, and have been busy planning their wedding for June of 2012..
