Homebuyers workshop

The Cape Ann Homeownership Center will offer a four-nigh First Time Homebuyers Workshop, hosted by the Gloucester Housing Authority, at 259 Washington St., on Aug. 7, 8, 14 and 15, 6:30 to 9 p.m. Topics include credit scores, safe mortgages, home inspections, legal issues, and more. Gloucester Writers Center

Nicole Rafter will discuss genocide films, “Night and Fog” by Alan Renais and “Enemies of the People” by Thet Sambath, on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 7:30 p.m., at the Gloucester Writers Center. Visit or call 978-283-7738.


Pilar Garro, site manager of Beauport, will present a free program titled, “Beauport: Henry Davis Sleeper’s Eclectic Showplace,” on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 7:30 p.m., at the Rockport Public Library. The 40-room house/museum, which dates back to 1907, is furnished with unusual and interesting objects acquired by Sleeper and includes a circular library, octagon room and a secret stairway. Sponsored by Sandy Bay Historical Society. All are welcome.

Lanesville aquarium visit

The New England Aquarium will bring its Traveling Tide Pool to the Lanesville Community Center, 8 Vulcan Street, on Saturday, Aug. 24. Stop in between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. to see, touch, and hold live tide pool animals. Coffee, juice, and pastry will be served. Donations appreciated.

CAAA sunset cruise

Cape Ann Animal Aid’s sunset cruise will take place Saturday, Aug. 17, 7 to 8:30 p.m., aboard Capt. Bill’s Whale Watch, Harbor Loop. Return to shore for the Gloucester Block Party. Raffles, prizes and free refreshments. Tickets are $20; stop by Cape Ann Animal Aid, Animal Krackers, Cape Ann Vet Hospital, Essex Bird Shop and Pet Supply, and Northshore Vet Hospital.
