Gloucester Goings On

Events listed here are open to the public and sponsored by nonprofit groups unless otherwise noted. Please include a contact person’s name and telephone number and send at least two weeks prior to the event. The Times will do its best to run the announcement at least once prior to the event. Penny sale

The Guild of Our Lady of Good Voyage Church will sponsor a penny sale Monday, March 18, 7:30 p.m., in the parish hall. Prizes include Portuguese sweet bread, baked goods and groceries. There will be a 50/50 raffle and a dinner raffle. All are welcome.

Kindergarten registration

Kindergarten registration for Gloucester Public Schools has begun for families with a child 5 years old on or before Aug. 31, 2013. Registration is at Fuller School on Wednesday, March 13, 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Birth certificates and proof of residency (tax bill, rent receipt, or utility bill) are required, and vaccinations must be completed prior to entrance. Those unable to register on March 13, or those in need of a registration packet should contact Ann-Marie Jordan at or 978-281-9816 ASAP. Visit for registration forms. (Children need not attend registration; parents or legal guardians must register children.)

Easter meals

The Capt. Lester S. Wass American Legion, Post 3, will serve and deliver free Easter meals on Easter to the elderly and shut-ins. The hall will also open from 10:30 a.m. to noon for anyone who would like an Easter meal. To order a meal, call 978-283-9710, after 3 p.m., and leave your name, address, telephone number and number of meals. Early reservations recommended. Monetary donations are welcome and can be mailed to the Legion at: P.O. Box 122, Gloucester, MA 01931-0122. Volunteers are also needed for cooking, serving and delivering meals; call 978-283-9710 after 3 p.m.
