Cursilla Ultreya

Yard sale
On Sunday, May 6, there will be a yard sale to benefit Wellspring's children playground improvements organized by Ethan Wheeler from Gloucester Boy Scout Troop 112. The yard sale will be held at 31 Eastern Point Road, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. All proceeds will go to pay for materials used to improve the children's play area at a Wellspring residential facility. Creating a safe place for the children to play is part of Ethan's Eagle Scout project.
Womens club
The Womens Club of Magnolia's will meet Tuesday, May 8, at 7 p.m. at Magnolia Library Center. The meeting will focus on this year's distribution of funds, followed by Russell's Florist making spring floral arrangements with our group; cost of materials is $25 per person. Cook-out
The members of Gloucester Lodge of Elks, 101 Atlantic Ave., invite families to a cook-out on May 6, from 1 to 4 p.m. Enjoy hamburgers, hot Dogs, and all the trimmings, hot off the grill. Leo Francis and his cast of characters will entertain the kids; and there'll be a fun-for-all of dancing, candy attacks, crafts, cupcake decorating and Rain Forest Reptiles exhibit at 3 p.m.
Yard sale
The Gloucester Preschool is having its annual yard sale on Saturday, May 5, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Fuller School. Proceeds benefit the enrichment of the students. Rain date is Saturday, May 19, at the same time.
A life honored
Friends, family and former students of James Guter, director of the award-winning Gloucester High School Band, from 1975 to 1982, will gather to honor his life and work at a memorial service on Saturday, May 5, at 2 p.m. at the Elks at Bass Rocks on Atlantic Beach. One of the founding members of the NESBA organization, Jim was instrumental in the development of the NESBA philosophy that all students deserve a chance to be great performers. Speech & Hearing
May is Better Speech & Hearing Month, and from May 1 through 31, Addison Gilbert and Beverly Hospital offers free speech/language screenings, including free pediatric speech and language screenings (20 to 30 minutes) for children 11 months to 18 years, conducted by a member of the Speech-Language Therapy Department to appropriately identify speech, language and feeding development. Children who qualify for more evaluation will be further assisted by a speech/language pathologist. The screenings will take place in Speech-language Therapy Outpatient Clinic at Beverly Hospital, on Herrick St., and in Addison Gilbert's Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine Center in Gloucester.
