Gloucester Goings On

Events listed here are open to the public and sponsored by nonprofit groups unless otherwise noted. Press releases may be sent to Goings on, Gloucester Daily Times, 36 Whittemore St., Gloucester, MA 01930, sent via email to gdt@gloucestertimes.com or faxed to 978-282-4397. Please include a contact person’s name and telephone number and send at least two weeks prior to the event. The Times will do its best to run the announcement at least once prior to the event. Due to the volume of goings on listings received by the paper, listings are alternated once they run and the same listings are not printed every day.

PSAT

On Wednesday, Oct. 17, Gloucester High School will administer the PSAT /NMSQT test during the school day for all interested sophomores and juniors. Participants must register at the Guidance Office with Jean Mondello, from Oct. 1 -12; registration fee is $22, cash only. The PSAT assists in the preparation for the SAT, allowing students to access personalized college and career planning resources, assessing student’s critical reading, mathematical reasoning and writing skills, and allows students to get specific suggestions on how to improve their academic performance, and to request information from colleges and universities. The PSAT is also the qualifying test for juniors to be recognized for the National Merit Scholarship Competition.

College Planning Night

A Senior College Planning night for GHS Seniors and their parents/guardians will take place Wednesday, Oct.17, at 7 p.m., in the Lecture Hall on the second floor. The Guidance Staff will present valuable information on the college selection and admission process. All seniors and their parents are requested to attend.

Bean supper

The Guild of Our Lady of Good Voyage Church will sponsor a “Bean Supper”on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the parish hall, from 4:45 to 7 p.m. The menu includes baked beans, linguica, hot dogs, rolls, cole slaw, home made pies, & beverages. Entertainment provided by “The Honky Tonk Women of Gloucester” Adults $8, children under ten $5. All are welcome.
