Rockport Goings On

Fitness class

Rockport Community Schools will offer a fitness class, for all ages, with Marsha Whelan. Classes meet Mondays and Wednesdays, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., in the Rockport Elementary School gym, beginning Feb. 25. Bring handheld weights, drinking water, a mat/towel for floor work, supportive footwear and comfortable clothing. Cost is $60 for six weeks (12 sessions), $48 for seniors 60 and over. Drama Festival show

The Rockport High School Drama Llamas will present Lisa Loomer’s “Distracted” for this year’s Massachusetts Educational Theatre Guild Drama Festival. The 40 cast and crew members will present their work Saturday, March 2, 9 a.m., at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School, 775 Bay Road, South Hamilton. Rockport will be one of eight schools competing for advancement in the festival. The RHS Drama Llamas will present a preview performance for the public Thursday, Feb. 28, 7 p.m., in the John Lane Auditorium, 24 Jerden’s Lane. Donations will be accepted at the door. Tickets for the festival will be $10 at the door.

Recycle Day fundraiser

The Docksiders Jazz Band will hold an Electronics and Appliance Recycle Day fundraiser Saturday, March 16, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the Gloucester High School parking lot, 32 Leslie O’Johnson Road, Gloucester. All towns are welcome.

Electronics — ($5 each) computers, stereos, DVD players, scanners, copiers, etc.

Appliances — ($10 each) dishwashers, dryers, stoves, microwaves, dehumidifiers, refrigerators, air conditioners, exercise equipment, lawn mowers, small engine items, snow blowers, etc.

Televisions — $15-30 each

Monitors — $10

Sewing machines, cell phones, car batteries and bicycles may be dropped off for free. Unwanted bicycles will get a new home, with some going to Ghana and some staying in the U.S. Contact Dennis Wood at 508-277-7513 denwaynewood@yahoo.com.

Operation Smile

Oasis Rockport will participate with photographers around the country in a portrait promotion supporting Operation Smile, which provides free surgeries for children around the world who have cleft lips, cleft palates or other facial deformities. Along with other members of Professional Photographers of America (PPA), Oasis Rockport will offer an individual portrait session and a desk-size portrait in exchange for a $24 donation to PPA Charities. The event will take place Saturday, April 6, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Emerson Inn by the Sea. To schedule a session, call 978-290-3184.
