Gloucester Goings On

Events listed here are open to the public and sponsored by nonprofit groups unless otherwise noted. Press releases may be sent to Goings on, Gloucester Daily Times, 36 Whittemore St., Gloucester, MA 01930, sent via email to gdt@gloucestertimes.com or faxed to 978-282-4397. Please include a contact person’s name and telephone number and send at least two weeks prior to the event. The Times will do its best to run the announcement at least once prior to the event. Due to the volume of goings on listings received by the paper, listings are alternated once they run and the same listings are not printed every day.

Penny sale

Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect St., will hold a penny sale Monday, Jan. 21, 7:30 p.m., in the parish hall. Sweet bread, groceries and baked goods will be available.

Street list books

City of Gloucester 2012 street list books are on sale at the City Clerks Office, 9 Dale Ave. Books are $25 each, while they last. City of Gloucester census forms will be mailed the third week of January. Review, make any changes, sign and return forms as soon as possible.

‘Fish Tales’

The Gloucester Writers Center, 126 East Main St., presents “Fish Tales!: Live Storytelling,” a live storytelling event that is looking for storytellers for the inaugural event on Thursday, Jan. 17, at 7:30 p.m. Similar to “The Moth Story Hour” on NPR, at “Fish Tales” you will tell your true story live in front of an audience. Stories must be no more than five minutes from beginning to end, and should follow a traditional story arc — having an introduction to set the stage, a story climax, and a conclusion. “Fish Tales” will be a bi-monthly event, and each reading will have a different overarching theme. Interested performers should visit www.gloucesterwriters.com or email fishtalesofgloucester@gmail.com. All are welcome to listen to or perform stories.
