How warm the heart feels when friends arrive
They come when we have pain
Telling stories of the past
Making us laugh, letting us forget that we have pain
They come at happy times, to celebrate our victory
Making toasts to future joys, being happy with us
They come when the blues have taken hold
And we are down
Listening carefully to our woes
Lifting us up to reality
Sometimes they come to us in need
So we can listen, lift up, and celebrate
Honoring us with that need
They come over just to talk
About our children, spouses, everyday things
They come to give their viewpoint,
To disagree with yours, and that’s all right!
When they come there is no putting on airs
They understand the way you are
How warm the heart feels when friends arrive
