Rockport Goings On

Events listed here are open to the public and sponsored by nonprofit groups unless otherwise noted. Science fun!

Entertainer Keith Michael Johnson will present his “Science isn’t Always Pretty” program on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m. at the Rockport Public Library. With humor and hands-on participation, he opens the world of science to children in grades K–5 and brings science to life with answers to all kinds of questions: Why do whips snap? Why are owl droppings fascinating? How did we explain things before we had science? Johnson motivates kids to think differently and more positively with this humor-based, educational program, funded by the Friends of the Rockport Public Library.

Hip Hop Hula!

Register for Hip Hop Hula Hoops, a new class for Grades K-5, Saturday, Feb. 23, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Rockport Community House, 58 Broadway; $30/6 classes or $5/class. Call Caitlin Chandler at 978-546-1309.

Strength training

Rockport Recreation’s Pilates Yoga class with an emphasis on strength training is Monday, Feb. 25, from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. at Rockport Community House, 58 Broadway; $5/drop in fee. Call Caitlin Chandler at 978-546-1309

Democrats caucus

Rockport Democrats will hold a caucus, followed by a regular Democratic Town Committee meeting, on Saturday, Feb. 23, 10:30 a.m., in the Brenner Room, Rockport Public Library, 17 School St. The caucus will elect delegates to the Massachusetts Democratic Convention which will be held July 13 at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell. Delegates will adopt a new party platform for the Massachusetts Democratic Party. Any person registered as a Democrat in Rockport as of Dec. 31, 2012, is eligible to vote at the caucus and run for delegate for the convention. Call 978-546-3754 or 978-546-8355.
