Erin M. Parry graduated from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine on May 23, after completing the Medical Scientist Training Program. She received both a Doctor of Medicine degree and a Doctor of Philosophy in human genetics and molecular biology degree at the commencement ceremony.

Parry was the recipient of the Warfield T. Longscope Prize in Clinical Medicine which recognizes “that graduating student entering the field of medicine whose performance in clinical medicine exemplifies in outstanding fashion the academic excellence and the human qualities that mark the true physician.” In addition, she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She is currently in her first year of the Osler Medicine Residency program at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md.

A 2002 graduate of Rockport High School and a 2006 graduate of Colby College, Parry is the daughter of Robert and Donna Parry of Rockport, and the granddaughter of Mary E. Colby of Gloucester.

Army Pvt. Thomas A. Burgdorf has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

A 2011 graduate of Rockport High School, he is the son of Serena Burgdorf of Rockport, and the nephew of John Burgdorf of Ohio.
