CoastSweep at Long Beach, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers help clean and fill out a pollution data card which helps to draft legislation to keep our oceans healthy. Three-part community poetry reading, 8 a.m., Celebrate the life of first Gloucester Poet Laureate Vincent Ferrini at Niles Beach; 9 to 9:45 a.m., Open mic at Gloucester Fishermen’s Wives Memorial, with Carl Carlsen reading Gloucester poet Clarence Manning Falt. 10 a.m., 15-minute tribute to Charles Olson at his grave in Beechbrook Cemetery. Devil’s Island, a movie filmed on Thacher Island, 7:30 p.m., Rockport Community House, 58 Broadway. $5 suggested donation to be shared by Thacher Island Association and Gloucester High School’s film club. The movie, an homage to classic thrillers, was directed by GHS history teacher Shaun Goulart. Trailer available by typing “UTUBE Shaun Goulart Devil’s Island” into search engine.

Thursday, Oct. 11

Gloucester Democratic City Committee meets, 7 p.m., Campaign Headquarters, Walgreen’s Plaza. Congressman John Tierney, state Rep. Ann-Margaret Ferrante, Candidate for Governor’s Council Eileen Duff, and representatives of President Obama’s and Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren’s campaigns will speak.
