Rockport Goings On

Events listed here are open to the public and sponsored by nonprofit groups unless otherwise noted. Press releases may be sent to Goings on, Gloucester Daily Times, 36 Whittemore St., Gloucester, MA 01930, sent via email to gdt@gloucestertimes.com or faxed to 978-282-4397. Please include a contact person’s name and telephone number and send at least two weeks prior to the event. The Times will do its best to run the announcement at least once prior to the event. Old Sloop Coffeehouse

Old Sloop Coffeehouse will present a performance by Bob Franke on Saturday, April 6, 7:30 p.m., at First Congregational Church, 12 School St., with John Schindler opening. Advance tickets are $10; visit www.oldsloopcoffeehouse.org, Gloucester Music or Toad Hall Bookstore in Rockport. Tickets at the door are $12 for adults, $7 for those 65 and older, $5 for those younger than 18, $24 per family.

Genealogy research

Barbara J. Beake and Peg Plummer from the Essex Society of Genealogists will discuss “Genealogy Research: Finding and Documenting Your Ancestors” on Saturday, April 13, 11 a.m., at the Essex Senior Center, 17 Pickering St., Essex. Topics include basic genealogy research strategies, documentation standards and resources for both genealogy and military records. Free and open to the public.

Senior Center programs

The Rockport Senior Center, 58 Broadway, offers these winter programs:

Tai Ji — Wednesdays, 9 to 10 a.m. $4 per class.

Strength Resistance Exercise Class — Mondays and Fridays, 9 to 10 a.m. $4 per class.

Yoga — Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 to 10 a.m. $3 per class.

Bingo — Mondays, 1 to 3:30 p.m.

Knitting and Handiwork Group — Thursdays, 1 to 3:30 p.m.

Scrabble — Wednesdays, 1 to 3 p.m.

Democratic Committee meeting

The Rockport Democratic Town Committee will meet Saturday, March 23, 10:30 a.m., in the Brenner Room, Rockport Public Library. All Democrats registered in Rockport are welcome. Call Suellen at 978-546-3754.
