Manchester Goings On

Events listed here are open to the public and sponsored by nonprofit groups unless otherwise noted. Press releases may be sent to Goings on, Gloucester Daily Times, 36 Whittemore St., Gloucester, MA 01930, sent via email to gdt@gloucestertimes.com or faxed to 978-282-4397. Please include a contact person’s name and telephone number and send at least two weeks prior to the event. The Times will do its best to run the announcement at least once prior to the event. Due to the volume of goings on listings received by the paper, listings are alternated once they run and the same listings are not printed every day.

Skating lessons

Beginner and advanced skating skills group and private lessons are available for boys and girls ages 5 to 12, tots ages 21/2 and up, teens and adults. Instruction is by professional coaches certified by USA Hockey and U.S. Figure Skating associations. Lessons available at Talbot Rink on Tuesdays, 6 p.m., and Saturdays, 1 p.m.; at Pingree School in Hamilton on Tuesdays and Fridays, 9:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m., and Wednesdays, 1:30 p.m. Private lessons also available. Wingmasters

On Wednesday, Jan. 2, the Manchester Public Library will host a wonderful, live bird program at 2 p.m. with Jim Parks of Wingmasters covering the importance of birds in ancient civilizations. A truly educational event, including several live birds, Wingmasters has been sponsored as part of the Hooper Fund grant to the Children’s Room. This program is for ages 5 and older and of interest to all ages of adults as well. Please register at 978-526-7711 or 978-526-2011.

Bird origami

The Manchester Library has live and paper birds this month! This second bird program starts at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, and focuses on Japanese origami with Laura Geggis, and her unique paper art instruction in a program designed for ages 8 and older (7, if experienced in origami).
