Rockport Goings On

Events listed here are open to the public and sponsored by nonprofit groups unless otherwise noted. Press releases may be sent to Goings on, Gloucester Daily Times, 36 Whittemore St., Gloucester, MA 01930, sent via email to gdt@gloucestertimes.com or faxed to 978-282-4397. Please include a contact person’s name and telephone number and send at least two weeks prior to the event. The Times will do its best to run the announcement at least once prior to the event. Spiran Lodge

Members of Spiran Lodge 98 will meet Friday, Jan. 4, 7 p.m., at the Lodge Hall. For membership inquiries, call 978-546-3223.

Democratic Town Committee

The Rockport Democratic Town Committee will meet Saturday, Jan. 12, 10:30 a.m., in the Brenner Room, Rockport Public Library. Agenda includes a discussion of the committee’s future direction, establishment of subcommittees, planning for the caucus of February or March, and other items of concern. Empty Bowl painting

Empty Bowl painting for The open Door will take place Wednesday, Jan. 9, 1 to 3 p.m., at the Rockport Senior Center. Admission is free. To register, call 978-546-2573. All are welcome.

Lego Engineering Program

The Rockport Recreation Department will offer a Lego Engineering Program on Saturdays, Jan. 5 to Feb. 9, at Rockport High School. Children, ages 5-11, are welcome. Cost is $95 per child. Using more than 100,000 Lego pieces, participants will work on a new project each week. Call 978-546-1309 or email caitlin@rockportrecreation.com.

Old Sloop Coffeehouse

The Atwater-Donnelly Band will perform at the Old Sloop Coffeehouse on Saturday, Jan. 5, 7:30 p.m., at First Congregational Church, 12 School St. Advance tickets are $12; visit www.oldsloopcoffeehouse.org, Gloucester Music in Gloucester, or Toad Hall Bookstore in Rockport. Tickets at the door are $14 for adults, $9 for those 65 and older, $5 for those younger than 18, $28 per family. This is a WUMB “Warm Clothes — Warm Hearts” event: bring a gently-used coat, jacket, hat or gloves for donation to an area homeless shelter and receive a free drink.
