Foundation fun day
The J.J. Nicastro Foundation Fun Day 4 Kidz in Gorton's Parking Lot is Saturday, June 23, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Featured will be an inflatable carnival, games, prizes, food, face painting and disc jockey. Kids summer lunch
The Open Door Food Pantry will serve free summer lunch to children under the age of 18, from June 15 to Aug. 24, at Riverdale Park, Willowood Gardens and The Open Door. Lunches are served Monday through Friday, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Summer Food Service Programs are federally funded through the USDA and sponsored by the Massachusetts Department of Education. Alzheimers fundraiser
On Friday, July 13, join a summer sunset music cruise to benefit Alzheimers aboard The Privateer IV out of 7-Sea's Wharf, next to the Gloucester House, departing promptly at 7 p.m. and returning by 10 p.m.Tickets are $20, including hot/cold buffet and entertainment by Full Circle. Senior Day Care

Gloucester United Methodist Church, 436 Washington St., is raising money through donations of new and used books, CDs, DVDs, records and audio books. The Center for Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine at Addison Gilbert Hospital, 298 Washington St., offers a risk-reduction exercise program for seniors age 60 and older with fear of falling and balance difficulty. A free 30-minute screening is required; plus a $3 fee per class. The Clothes Closet

Nurturing program
Pathways' Cape Ann Families is looking for men and women to be paid facilitators of the Nurturing Program this fall. This 15 week program meets Tuesday evenings, October to February. Its initiative is to model a nurturing environment while working with children and their parents on creating a healthier family unit. Free three day training runs July 16, 18, and 21, from 10 to 5 p.m. at our 29 Emerson Ave. facility. Although the training is unpaid, it qualifies you as a candidate for a paid facilitator's position this fall. All are welcome. Fiesta trailers
The 2012 St. Peter's Fiesta starts June 27, and runs through Sunday evening, July 1. The religious procession follows the outdoor celebration of 10 a.m. mass of St. Peter at St. Peter's Park. Three trailers are still available, without cost, for individuals, families or groups wishing to add spiritual tradition to this unique event, by entering a personal decorated float with a religious theme. Victoria's journals
Sawyer Free Library's anglophiles may have free online access to Queen Victoria's Journals through June 30, at www.queenvictoriasjournals.org. The 141 volumes span her childhood through her golden and diamond jubilee years to her death in 1901. The only monarch other than Queen Elizabeth II to celebrate a diamond jubilee, Victoria's complete collection has never been published before. The online journals, complete with photos and illustrations, are the result of a collaboration by the Bodleian Library, the Royal Archives and the online publisher ProQuest. Most of the volumes were rewritten by Victoria's daughter, Princess Beatrice, according to the wishes of her mother. After June 30, the journals will be available only to users in the United Kingdom.

Eden's Edge
The North Shore Arts Association will welcome back Music at Eden's Edge, the North Shore's own resident chamber music ensemble for their 31st summer concert series. On Saturday, June 23, at 8 p.m. This performance —"Winds of June: Treasures and Discoveries for Woodwinds"— is the first of three at the Gallery this summer. Teen Zone
During June, take advantage of "Food for Fines" at Sawyer Free Library. Sixth- through 12th-graders can erase their overdue book fines by donating non-perishable food items to the library to benefit The Open Door's food pantry. Drop donations at the circulation desk with your library card. If you've lost your card, you can get a free replacement (for teens only).

The Gloucester Children's Dental Center welcomes new patients to their facility on 99 Prospect Street. This child friendly center serves children and young adults under the age of 21 years who have Mass Health insurance. Jewish heritage
Sawyer Free Library's Matz Gallery is exhibiting artist Jacqueline Cooper's series of 18 framed multimedia prints that portray a historical and cultural timeline of Jewish life in Europe. The prints portray Jewish life in Eastern Europe, immigration to New York's Lower East Side, and the challenges Jews faced as they developed the ready-to-wear garment industry in America. The free exhibit ends on June 30, and is open to the public.
