Thursday, April 4

“Power of the Purse” event, sponsored by Women’s Fund of Essex County, 6:30 to 9 p.m., Brookwood School, Manchester. Hors d’oeuvres and wine, and raffle featuring chances to win distinctive purses and bags donated by renowned designers and retailers. All proceeds fund special projects and annual grant awards made by The Women’s Fund throughout Essex County. $35 in advance, $40 at door. www.thewomensfundec.org.

Friday, April 5

Woodman’s celebrates 25 years of giving with “Howl at the Moon” event, Essex Room. Cocktail reception at 6 p.m., followed by Dueling Pianos at 7 p.m. $25 per guest. Proceeds benefit Mr. & Mrs. L. Dexter Woodman Scholarship Fund. www.howlatthemoon.com.

Harold Burnham & Friends discuss building the schooner Ardelle, 7:30 p.m., Waterline Center, Essex Shipbuilding Museum, 66 Main St. Burnham shares photos from Ardelle’s voyage to Washington, D.C., to collect 2012 National Endowment for the Arts Heritage Fellowships. $8 for members, $10 for nonmembers.

Saturday, April 13

“Genealogy Research: Finding and Documenting Your Ancestors,” presented by Barbara J. Beake and Peg Plummer of Essex Society of Genealogists, 11 a.m., Essex Senior Center, 17 Pickering St., Essex. Free and open to the public.

Saturday, April 20

Celebrate Earth Day with tree saplings provided by Essex Department of Public Works will, 2 p.m., at the Transfer Station. Kousa Dogwood and Rose of Sharon will be available. First-come, first-served. The DPW will also be accepting brush, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Limbs up to eight inches in diameter; Essex residents only. Call 978-768-6262.

Friday, May 3

Happy As A Clam 5K Road Race and One-Mile Fun Run, Essex Elementary School, 12 Story St. Registration, 4 p.m., followed by race at at 5:30 p.m. A fundraiser for the Essex Elementary PTO. $25 for the 5K, $8 for the fun run. Visit: www.happyasaclam.org.
