“Power of the Purse” event, sponsored by Women’s Fund of Essex County, 6:30 to 9 p.m., Brookwood School, Manchester. Hors d’oeuvres and wine, and raffle featuring chances to win distinctive purses and bags donated by renowned designers and retailers. All proceeds fund special projects and annual grant awards made by The Women’s Fund throughout Essex County. $35 in advance, $40 at door. www.thewomensfundec.org.

Old Sloop Coffeehouse performance by Bob Franke, 7:30 p.m., at First Congregational Church, 12 School St. John Schindler opens.
