“Power of the Purse” event, sponsored by Women’s Fund of Essex County, 6:30 to 9 p.m., Brookwood School, Manchester. Hors d’oeuvres and wine, and raffle featuring chances to win distinctive purses and bags donated by renowned designers and retailers. All proceeds fund special projects and annual grant awards made by The Women’s Fund throughout Essex County. $35 in advance, $40 at door. www.thewomensfundec.org.

‘Lawyer for a day,’ with Orlando & Associates, 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Manchester Public Library. Free consultations with civil litigation attorneys, basic legal advice, personal injury law, medical malpractice, general liability, etc.

Saturday, April 6

Chili & Chowder Fest to benefit Wellspring House, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., First Parish Church, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., 1 Chapel Lane, Manchester. $10 for adult, $5 for children under 12. Chili, chowder, beverages, hot dogs and assorted desserts. Free parking available behind Town Hall. www.firstparishchurch.org.

Official ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly renovated Children’s Room, 2 to 3:30 p.m. Library Trustees will thank the community for its support of the 125th Anniversary Capital Campaign and honor Sara Collins on her 25th anniversary as children’s librarian. Refreshments and entertainment.

The Non-fiction Book Group meet, 5 p.m., to discuss Blood, Bones and Butter: the inadvertent education of a reluctant chef/ by Gabrielle Hamilton, the 2013 selection of Manchester’s community reads.

Tuesday, April 9

Harold Burnham & Friends discuss building the schooner Ardelle, 7:30 p.m., Waterline Center, Essex Shipbuilding Museum, 66 Main St. Burnham shares photos from Ardelle’s voyage to Washington, D.C., to collect 2012 National Endowment for the Arts Heritage Fellowships. $8 for members, $10 for nonmembers.

Wednesday, April 10
