Gloucester Goings On

Events listed here are open to the public and sponsored by nonprofit groups unless otherwise noted. ‘Float’

Gloucester author JoeAnn Hart reads from her latest novel, “Float,” on Thursday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m. at The Bookstore, in Gloucester. “Float” — a page-turner of a tale of family, the environment, and life in a seaside town— has been getting great reviews and JoeAnn will be signing copies of the book after the reading.

Businesswomens’ meeting

The Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce Businesswomen’s meeting will take place Thursday, Feb. 28, 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., at 33 Commercial St.

Little Mermaid Jr.

The O’Maley Innovation Middle School’s Performing Arts Department will stage six performances of Disney’s beloved ‘Little Mermaid’ Junior over two weekends; Thursday, March 7, 7 p.m., Friday, March 8, 7 p.m., Saturday, March 9, 1 p.m., and the following weekend, on Thursday, March 14, 7 p.m., Friday, March 15, 7 p.m., and Saturday, March 16, at 1 p.m. Tickets are $5 for students and seniors; $7 for adults.

McGeary at Rose Baker

Ward 1 City Councilor Paul McGeary will hold monthly office hours at the Rose Baker Senior Center, 6 Manuel F. Lewis St., on Friday, March 1, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

St. Patrick’s Day dance

The Gloucester Fraternity Club will host a St. Patrick’s Day dance Saturday, March 16, at 7 p.m. The event is a fundraiser for the Cape Ann Relay for Life’s Team Friends for Friends, and all proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. Music by DJ Leo Francis. Light snacks and a raffle will be available. Cost is $17 per person. For tickets, call Kate at 978-283-4337 or Debbie at 978-283-0633.
