Gloucester Goings On

Sweet bread sale

Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect St., will hold a sweet bread sale and fried-dough breakfast Saturday, Nov. 2, in the Parish Hall, from 9 a.m. until the bread is gone.

Cursillo ultreya

There will be a cursillo ultreya and pot-luck supper Saturday, Nov. 9, at St. Ann Church, Holy Family Parish, Pleasant Street. The pot-luck is at 5 p.m., followed by the ultreya at 6 p.m. You need not have been on a cursillo encounter weekend to attend. Call Al Mitchell at 978-879-3655.

‘Writer’s Block’

The next episode of “The Writer’s Block with John Ronan” will be broadcast on Cape Ann TV’s Channel 12 on Thursday, Oct. 31, at 8 p.m., and will be repeated one week later. Program features the husband-and-wife team of Tamsin Venn and David Eden. They are the publisher and editor, respectively, of Atlantic Coastal Kayaker, distributed out of Ipswich for the last 22 years and widely read on Cape Ann. Ronan, a National Endowment for the Arts Fellow and former Gloucester poet laureate, interviews poets and other artists during the half-hour program.

‘Thanking Our Troops’

The Cape Ann Daughters of the American Revolution will present a program titled “Remembering and Thanking Our Troops” on Saturday, Nov. 2, 11 a.m., in the Friend Room, Sawyer Free Library. Richard Barbarto, director of Veterans Services in Gloucester, will discuss the services offered to returning forces. Bring a new pair of white socks for a man or woman as an entry fee. Trivia Night

The Rotary Club of Gloucester is hosting a big Trivia night on Friday, Oct. 25, at the Gloucester House. The doors open at 6 p.m., and the game begins at 7 p.m. Teams of four will compete for the title of Cape Ann Trivia Champions and the opportunity to take the Trivia Trophy home until the next Trivia Night! Proceeds support Gloucester Rotary Club programs. Cash bar, snack bar, 50/50 raffle; $100 for a team of four.
