Manchester Goings On

Events listed here are open to the public and sponsored by nonprofit groups unless otherwise noted. Press releases may be sent to Goings on, Gloucester Daily Times, 36 Whittemore St., Gloucester, MA 01930, sent via email to gdt@gloucestertimes.com or faxed to 978-282-4397. Please include a contact person’s name and telephone number and send at least two weeks prior to the event. The Times will do its best to run the announcement at least once prior to the event. Due to the volume of goings on listings received by the paper, listings are alternated once they run and the same listings are not printed every day.

Online Britannica

The Manchester Public Library invites students to try the online version of Encyclopedia Britannica, which includes maps, articles, videos, primary sources, and e-books. Its interactive level is also specialized for elementary, middle and high school students. Visit www.manchesterpl.org, click on Online Library, and then click on Encyclopedia Britannica for Students.

Museum passes

Manchester Public Library offers passes for reduced entry fees to Cape Ann Historical Association, Children’s Museum of Boston, Institute of Contemporary Art, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, JFK Presidential Library and Museum, New England Aquarium, Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Science, Peabody Essex Museum, and Wheelock Family Theater. The library also offers a Massachusetts State Parks parking pass. Passes may be reserved in person; call 978-526-7711 or visit www.manchesterpl.org. The pass program is sponsored by the Friends of the Manchester Public Library.

COA redistributions

Donations of old eyeglasses and old cell phones will be collected for recycling and, or redistribution programs. Call the Council on Aging at 978-526-7500.

Manchester history

The Centennial Historical Committee of the Manchester Bath & Tennis Club is looking for photos, menus, dance cards and other memorabilia to compile a memory book recounting the past 100 years.
