“Power of the Purse” event, sponsored by Women’s Fund of Essex County, 6:30 to 9 p.m., Brookwood School, Manchester. Hors d’oeuvres and wine, and raffle featuring chances to win distinctive purses and bags donated by renowned designers and retailers. Chili & Chowder Fest to benefit Wellspring House, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., First Parish Church, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., 1 Chapel Lane, Manchester. $10 for adult, $5 for children under 12. Harold Burnham & Friends discuss building the schooner Ardelle, 7:30 p.m., Waterline Center, Essex Shipbuilding Museum, 66 Main St. Burnham shares photos from Ardelle’s voyage to Washington, D.C., to collect 2012 National Endowment for the Arts Heritage Fellowships. $8 for members, $10 for nonmembers.
