Poets Corner: Icy Path

"All this and heaven too?"

I may not know about heaven

but what I see before me

speaks of eternity:

Roots that go down deep in the earth,

branches that reach far into a sky

extending beyond my sight,

but not outside my longing.

A dog barks high on the hill,

otherwise all is still.

The icy path beyond

urges a homeward retreat,

while pale peach glow

along the horizon

signals day will soon end.

Turning into the driveway

after interval of invigorating air,

my face and fingers tingle,

but heart is warm and spirit revived

with nature's nurture.
