Manchester Goings On

Events listed here are open to the public and sponsored by nonprofit groups unless otherwise noted. Press releases may be sent to Goings on, Gloucester Daily Times, 36 Whittemore St., Gloucester, MA 01930, sent via email to or faxed to 978-282-4397. Please include a contact person’s name and telephone number and send at least two weeks prior to the event. The Times will do its best to run the announcement at least once prior to the event. Food donations

For the month of June, Manchester Public Library will collect food donations to give to The Open Door food pantry in Gloucester. Bring nonperishable, non-glass donations to the circulation desk.

Books at the Beach

Books at the Beach will start the week of June 17 at Singing Beach bath house. Every Monday during the summer, the library will bring donated or withdrawn books down to Singing Beach with an assortment of books for all ages. Return books to the bath house or the library.

Church concert

Emmanuel Church will hold a concert of sacred and instrumental music of the German Baroque on Saturday, June 29, 4:30 p.m., at the Emmanuel Chapel, 24 Masconomo St. Features works by Bach, Handel, Schütz, Telemann and others. A $10 donation is suggested. Call 978-526-0085 or visit

Memorial race

The 47th annual S.S. Crocker Memorial Race, held off the coast of Manchester, will take place Saturday, July 13. The race, which is open to all sailboats, is a fun-filled family event. Awards are given for first, second and third in each class. Wood and Fiberglass boats are welcome. Event is jointly sponsored by the Manchester Yacht Club and the Manchester Harbor Boat Club. Visit
