Rockport Goings On

Events listed here are open to the public and sponsored by nonprofit groups unless otherwise noted. Press releases may be sent to Goings on, Gloucester Daily Times, 36 Whittemore St., Gloucester, MA 01930, sent via email to gdt@gloucestertimes.com or faxed to 978-282-4397. Please include a contact person’s name and telephone number and send at least two weeks prior to the event. The Times will do its best to run the announcement at least once prior to the event. Due to the volume of goings on listings received by the paper, listings are alternated once they run and the same listings are not printed every day.

Church lift

The First Baptist Church of Rockport offers free rides to church every Sunday for anyone living on Cape Ann. To sign up, call 978-546-6121 or visit www.FirstBaptistRockport.org.

Summer Reading

Children from preschool through grade six may sign up for the Rockport Public Library Summer Reading Program beginning Monday, June 24. Theme for the seven-week program is “Dig into Reading.” Reading records, time logs, book bags and bookmarks available in the Junior Department. Children can also join the “Read and Win” program sponsored by Topsfield Fair. Those who read at least 20 hours — alone or with an adult — will receive a free ticket to the fair plus a voucher for a hot dog and beverage, two ride tickets, and a “Read and Win” ribbon.

“Having Fun with Fossils & Dinosaurs” with Paulette Morin — June 26, 3 p.m., Brenner Friends Room.

“Amazing Animals: Diggers & Burrowers” live-animal show — July 10, 3 p.m., Millbrook Meadow. Rain site: Library.

“A Song & Story in Celebration” with Davis Bates — July 24, 3 p.m., in Millbrook Meadow. Rain site: Library.

Summer Reading Program concludes — Aug. 7, 3 p.m., Brenner Friends Room — with a party and Australian-themed music and comedy presented by Didgeridoo Down Under.
