‘Power of the Purse’ event
The Women’s Fund of Essex County will host the fifth annual “Power of the Purse” fundraising event Thursday, April 4, 6:30 to 9 p.m., at Brookwood School in Manchester. The event will include hors d’oeuvres and wine, and a raffle featuring chances to win distinctive purses and bags donated by renowned designers and retailers. Recycle Day fundraiser
The Docksiders Jazz Band will hold an Electronics and Appliance Recycle Day fundraiser Saturday, March 16, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the Gloucester High School parking lot, 32 Leslie O’Johnson Road, Gloucester. All towns are welcome.
Electronics — ($5 each) computers, stereos, DVD players, scanners, copiers, etc.
Appliances — ($10 each) dishwashers, dryers, stoves, microwaves, dehumidifiers, refrigerators, air conditioners, exercise equipment, lawn mowers, small engine items, snow blowers, etc.
Televisions — $15-30 each
Monitors — $10
Sewing machines, cell phones, car batteries and bicycles may be dropped off for free. Unwanted bicycles will get a new home, with some going to Ghana and some staying in the U.S. Contact Dennis Wood at 508-277-7513 email@example.com.
The AARP Foundation tax-aide and SeniorCare RSVP programs will offer free income tax advice to qualified seniors and low-income residents. All volunteer counselors are trained by the IRS. Tax volunteer Mary Gundy will be in the Council on Aging office Thursdays, 1:15 to 4 p.m., with appointments scheduled every half hour. Bring copies of the previous year’s federal and state tax returns, any forms including W-2s and other relevant material showing income for the year. Call 978-526-7500 for an appointment.
Open Door pantry
The Open Door food pantry, 28 Emerson Ave., Gloucester, serves residents of Manchester, Essex, Gloucester, Rockport and Ipswich with a full-service pantry of milk, eggs, bread, fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, and a variety of dry and canned goods.
