As the wife and I lie in bed,
We talk about all the wonderful things that pass through our head.
After our chat, we lay back for a little while
And fall asleep with a loving smile.
When I awake, I look at my wife and say —
“While I was asleep I missed you dear.”
She looks at me with those big brown eyes and says —
“I have had that thought for many a year.”
We know the day is going to come
When only one of us will awake.
It will be a sad day —
When one of us will have to attend the other one’s wake.
That’s not the end of the story, believe me —
For when we both pass on we’ll be together forever —
For eternity.
In memory of those who have lost a spouse.
