Rockport Goings On

Thrift Shop

The Thrift Shop at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Rockport will hold its annual half-price sale Aug. 23, 24, 30 and 31. The sale will apply to all but selected items in the shop.

Youth choir auditions

Auditions for the 2013-14 season for the Honors Youth Choir of Chorus North Shore will be held Thursday, Sept. 12, 4 p.m., at the First Baptist Church, 2 High St., Rockport, and Thursday, Sept. 19, 3:30 p.m., at Ascension Memorial Church, 31 County St., Ipswich, followed by the first rehearsal. Auditions are open to all youth ages 10 through high school. The choir is sponsored by Chorus North Shore and is tuition free for youth.

RAA show

Rockport Art Association, 12 Main St., invites the general public to an opening reception for its fourth summer show of paintings, graphics, sculpture and photography on Friday, Aug. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. Show runs until Sept. 22. Call 978-546-6604 or visit

Rockport Legion Band

The Rockport Legion Band continues its 80th season of free summer concerts at Back Beach Bandstand on Sunday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m. All ages are welcome. Bring chairs or blankets. Popcorn and cold drinks are available.

OGBA covered-dish supper

The Old Garden Beach Association will hold its annual covered-dish supper Saturday, Aug. 24, 5 p.m., at the home of Bernie and Lorraine Horn, 33 Norwood Ave., rain or shine. Last names ending in A-E should bring a dessert; F-I should bring a salad; J-O should bring an appetizer, and P-Z should bring a main dish. BYOB and bring your own lawn chair. All friends, neighbors, members and nonmembers are welcome.

Old Sloop Coffeehouse

Old Sloop Coffeehouse will present a performance by Ellis Paul on Friday, Sept. 6, 7:30 p.m., at First Congregational Church, 12 School St. Advance tickets are $16; visit, Gloucester Music, or Toad Hall Bookstore. Tickets, at the door, are $20 for adults, $12 for those 65 and older, $5 for those younger than 18, $40 per family.
