Gloucester Goings On

Events listed here are open to the public and sponsored by nonprofit groups unless otherwise noted. Auction, dinner

The Magnolia Historical Society will hold an auction and dinner Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Blynman School, 46 Magnolia Ave. A silent auction will take place from 3 to 5 p.m., with a preview at 2 p.m., followed by a live auction at 5 p.m. Auction items include antiques, paintings, gift certificates, Red Sox and Celtics tickets, sports memorabilia, collectibles and more. Event catered by Classic Cooks Catering. All are welcome. Cost is $25 per person, $20 for MHS members.

Kickathon event

The Gloucester Uechi Karate Academy, 2a Pond Road, will host a Kickathon to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 10 a.m. to noon. The public is welcome. Baked goods, a raffle, hot dogs and popcorn will be for sale. Call 978-282-0629, visit or email

‘Crazy Moon’

Columnist and actor Gordon Baird is staging eight performances of “Crazy Moon,” an original 10-song musical, starring Baird but also featuring Kathleen Brown and musician John Hyde at the new Rocky Neck Cultural Center, 6 Wonson St. Performances are: Thursday-Saturday, Sept. 19-21 and Sept. 26-28, 8 p.m..; and Sunday, Sept. 22 and 29, 5 p.m. Tickets are $10, $5 for children, and may be purchased at the door.
