Rockport Goings On

Events listed here are open to the public and sponsored by nonprofit groups unless otherwise noted. Press releases may be sent to Goings on, Gloucester Daily Times, 36 Whittemore St., Gloucester, MA 01930, sent via email to or faxed to 978-282-4397. Please include a contact person’s name and telephone number and send at least two weeks prior to the event. The Times will do its best to run the announcement at least once prior to the event. Due to the volume of goings on listings received by the paper, listings are alternated once they run and the same listings are not printed every day.

Fundraiser event

The Unitarian Universalist Society of Rockport, 4 Cleaves St., will hold a fundraiser to benefit the UU Steeple Rescue in progress on Saturday, Aug. 3, at 7:30 p.m. Donations will be accepted.

Legion Band

The Rockport Legion Band, under the direction of Jim Davison, will present a free concert Sunday, Aug. 4, 7 p.m., at the Back Beach Bandstand. All ages are welcome. Bring blankets or chairs. Popcorn and cold drinks are available.


Pilar Garro, site manager of Beauport in Gloucester, will present a free program titled, “Beauport: Henry Davis Sleeper’s Eclectic Showplace,” on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 7:30 p.m., at the Rockport Public Library. The 40-room house/museum, which dates back to 1907, is furnished with unusual and interesting objects acquired by Sleeper and includes a circular library, octagon room and a secret stairway. Sponsored by Sandy Bay Historical Society. All are welcome.

Summer BBQ

The Rockport Council on Aging and the SeniorCare Nutrition Program will sponsor a summer BBQ at the Rockport Senior Center on Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $3 and includes hamburgers, hot dogs, pasta salad, potato salad, watermelon and strawberry shortcake. To RSVP, call Freda at 978-546-5027 or 978-546-2573. Followed by free presentation, “Laughter is the Best Medicine,” sponsored by BAYADA Home Health Care.
