The Smith Family
We would like to thank the Cape Ann community for the kindness and generosity extended to our family over the past two months. Our son and brother, Mike, was diagnosed with cancer on March 2, 2012, the result of radiation treatments he received in 2000, during his first cancer diagnosis. On Saturday evening, May 19, our family members hosted a fundraiser at the St. Peter's Club. The response and turnout for this event was beyond anything we could have hoped for. We will be forever grateful for the outpouring of love, emotional support, and the extremely generous donations by relatives, dear friends, and co-workers from Gloucester, Essex and Manchester, who joined us for this unforgettable evening. It exceeded our expectations in every way. And a special thanks to those who stepped up to shave their heads in a show of unity with Mike during his chemotherapy treatments.
In addition, Harold P. "Mac" MacArthur, our neighbor on Whittemore Street, passed away on April 11, 2012, and his family generously requested donations in his memory be made to Mike's family. A sincere thank you to all the MacArthur family for their thoughtfulness in the midst of their loss.
Also, on Wednesday evening, May 30, Mike's co-workers and "brothers" at the Gloucester Fire Department held an event at Schooner's Topside Grill with a percentage of the evening going to Mike's family along with a 50/50 raffle.
Thanks to a great group for all your kindness and support throughout Mike's illness.
