Third-graders at Gloucester’s West Parish Elementary School made envelope-style holiday stockings and stuffed them with letters they wrote to troops serving overseas. Students across the city’s elementary schools did similar things for the troops for the holidays.

The Gloucester Community Arts Charter School recently held its Dance-A-Thon, which raised more than $200 for the Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts. Nine students, ranging from kindergarten through grade eight, solicited pledges for the event. Jordan McAuliffe was the most successful fundraiser, collecting $67 in pledges all by herself. The event drew more than 50 dancers of all ages.
