America’s Boating eight-week safety course begins, 7 to 9 p.m., Sandy Bay Yacht Club. Basic navigational rules contained in Federal recreational boating regulations. Students obtain a boat license or safety certification in most states that require such documentation. $60 per student for eight weeks. To register, call Ed Walsh at 978-927-1179.

Rockport High School Quiz Team benefit dinner, 5 to 6:30 p.m., RHS cafeteria. Chicken and ribs dinner (courtesy of Outback Steakhouse). Open Door’s annual Empty Bowl Dinner, 4 to 8 p.m., Cruiseport Gloucester. Extra parking at Good Harbor Beach, with regular trolley service to and from event. $15, $10 for children under 10.
