Gloucester Goings On

Events listed here are open to the public and sponsored by nonprofit groups unless otherwise noted. Please include a contact person’s name and telephone number and send at least two weeks prior to the event. The Times will do its best to run the announcement at least once prior to the event. Due to the volume of goings on listings received by the paper, listings are alternated once they run and the same listings are not printed every day.

School open enrollment

Annisquam Kindergarten and Nursery School, 1123 Washington St. is currently holding open enrollment for the 2013-14 school year. Call 978-283-2814 to schedule an appointment, or drop by at your convenience. Bring your child for a tour of the nonprofit and nondiscriminatory school.

Symphony concert

Cape Ann Symphony, under the music direction of Conductor Yoichi Udagawa, will present its 61st season finale concert, “Heroic Music for Mother’s Day” on Saturday, May 11, 8 p.m., in the Manchester Essex High School auditorium, 36 Lincoln St., Manchester. Features Tchaikovsky’s “Serenade for Strings” and Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 3, Eroica.” Tickets are $35 for adults, $30 for seniors, $20 for those 19-24, free for children 18 and under. For tickets, call 978-281-0543 or visit www.capeannsymphony.org. The symphony will hold an open rehearsal Friday, May 10, 7:30 to 9 p.m., in the MERHS auditorium. Public is invited. Questions from the audience follow. Admission is $10 for adults, free for children 18 and under.

Homemade nisu

The Gloucester United Methodist Church, 436 Washington St., will hold a homemade nisu sale Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1. Cost is $5 per loaf. Orders may be picked up after 1 p.m. To place an order, call 978-281-1040. All proceeds benefit Grace House of Cape Ann.
